[Surgery of abdominal aortic aneurysm in a department of vascular surgery integrated into a department of general surgery--is it satisfactory?].

Seventy-two operations for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), i.e 104 per mill. per year, were carried out by a vascular surgical unit integrated into a general surgical department.

[Irritable colon and ulcerative colitis. Alternative treatment is used frequently].

A questionnaire investigation was undertaken to compare the employment of alternative treatment in patients with irritable colon (CI) and ulcerative colitis (CU) as compared with a control group of appendectomized (A). A total of 430 questionnaires were sent out. The percentage of replies was 83 without significant difference between the patient groups.

Excess mortality in giant cell arteritis.

A 13-year departmental sample of 34 patients with definite (biopsy-verified) giant cell arteritis (GCA) was reviewed. The mortality of this material was compared to sex-, age- and time-specific death rates in the Danish population. The standardized mortality ratio (SMR) was 1.

Collagenous colitis: a prospective trial of prednisolone in six patients.

In a prospective study, the clinicopathological effect of prednisolone was evaluated in six patients with collagenous colitis. Prednisolone was associated with a significant decrease in stool frequency. However, the effect was transitory, since the diarrhoea recurred when prednisolone treatment was discontinued.
