The content of cadmium, cobalt and nickel in laryngeal carcinoma.

Introduction: The aim of the study was to determine the content of cadmium (Cd), cobalt (Co) and nickel (Ni) in the samples from laryngeal carcinoma in comparison with the level of these elements in the samples of healthy mucous membrane from the same larynx.

Material And Methods: The study was conducted on 43 patients with laryngeal carcinoma. The levels of Cd, Co, and Ni in carcinoma and healthy control tissues was determined by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP - OES) using sequential spectrometer.

[Impedance changes in cochlear implant users].

Unlabelled: Impedance measurements are routinely performed during the cochlear implantation. These measurements make possible to check, whether all electrodes work correctly and are useful in the monitoring of implant's functioning during rehabilitation. The analysis of the impedance's changes makes possible to estimate, what processes happen in tissues and liquids of the inner ear around the electrode.

Genome-wide copy number profiling using a 100K SNP array reveals novel disease-related genes BORIS and TSHZ1 in juvenile angiofibroma.

Juvenile angiofibroma (JA) is a unique fibrovascular tumor, which is almost exclusively found in the posterior nasal cavity of adolescent males. Although histologically classified as benign, the tumor often shows an aggressive growth pattern and has been associated with chromosomal imbalances, amplification of oncogenes and epigenetic dysregulation. We present the first genome-wide profiling of JAs (n=14) with a 100K single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) microarray.

[Recurrence in operated patients with laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma].

Purpose: The aim of the present study was to investigate the recurrence prevalence in patients with laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) underwent surgery as primary treatment.

Material: The assessed group consisted of 148 patients with operable LSCC underwent surgery as primary treatment between 1999-2002. Surgery was performed in all cases.

[Transpalatal approach for juvenile angiofibroma].

Introduction: Juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibromas (JNA) are highly vascular, locally invasive tumours which originate in the sphenopalatine foramen. Several surgical approaches are described for this tumour. The aim of this study was to evaluate the transpalatal approach for juvenile angiofibroma.
