One of the most well-liked energizing drinks is now tea, which is primarily used in Malaysia. The natural radioactivity in the associated soils where tea plants are cultivated plays a major role in determining the presence of radionuclides in tea leaves. The present study assesses the transfer of radionuclides from soil-to-tea leaves and then estimates the committed effective doses through tea consumption.

Highly popular and forming a staple part of the diet in North Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, and West Asia, palm dates growing naturally there have even greater marketability than simple satisfaction of domestic demand, the palm dates representing a valuable export item. Accurate knowledge of the levels of natural radioactivity in the fruit is thus of importance.

The mean activity concentrations for Ra, Th and K at different locations were found to be less than the world average values, while the Miami Bay values for Ra and Th were found to be greater, at 1023±47 and 2086±96Bqkg respectively. The main contributor to radionuclide enrichment in Miami Bay is the presence of monazite-rich black sands.
