Oral health-related quality of life and patient satisfaction using three-dimensional printed dentures: A crossover randomized controlled trial.

Objectives: This crossover randomized controlled clinical trial (RCT) aimed to evaluate the clinical applicability of three-dimensional printed dentures (CAD-3DPs) by comparing two fabricated complete dentures, CAD-3DPs and conventional complete dentures (CCDs), and assess the non-inferiority of CAD-3DPs. The hypothesis was that CAD-3DPs would be inferior to CCDs in terms of the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) and patient satisfaction.

Methods: This single-blind RCT was conducted at two university hospitals.

Infective Endocarditis Caused by Panton-Valentine Leukocidin-producing Methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus Identified by the Broad-range PCR Method.

A 76-year-old man was admitted to a community hospital due to a persistent high fever. He became afebrile after the administration of broad-spectrum antibiotics, but developed heart failure due to progressive aortic and mitral valve insufficiency and was transferred to our hospital. Although sequential blood cultures were negative, a broad-range polymerase chain reaction targeting the bacterial 16S-rRNA gene followed by the direct sequencing of whole blood revealed spa(+), mecA(-) and Panton-Valentine leukocidin (PVL)(+).

Aneurysm shrinkage after endovascular repair of aortic diseases.

Background: There are two graft materials for endovascular repair of aortic diseases, i.e., polyester and expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE).

[Total removal of infected pacemaker lead under cardiopulmonary bypass in a case of endocarditis, bacteremia and lung abscess].

A 60-year-old man, who had undergone implantation of a transvenous pacemaker system on the left chest wall for sick sinus syndrome 19 years ago, was admitted because of endocarditis with septicemia and lung abscess 2 months after reimplantation of the generator. His blood culture revealed Staphylococcus aureus. Following debridement of the infected pacemaker pocket and antibiotics therapy, we tried to remove the pacemaker system under cardiopulmonary bypass 1 month after admission.
