A very rare Rhnull phenotype as a cause of haemolytic anaemia in a female patients was for the first time detected in Poland. The beneficial influence of splenectomy was demonstrated. It was proved that a single transfusion of Rh negative red cell concentrate, because of the lack of Rhnull blood, did not cause any acute adverse reactions.

21 year old female with severe symptoms of AIHA developed twice acute haemolytic reactions at the time of blood transfusions compatible in ABO and Rh blood group systems as well as in K antigen, but incompatible by cross-match due to the presence of autoantibody in her serum. High-affinity IgG autoantibody of an unusual anti-S specificity firmly blocked S determinants on the patient red cells. S negative blood was well tolerated.

The course of the hepatitis B virus infection (HBV) in the majority of children with cancer who have undergone intensive chemotherapy is characterized by scanty symptoms and often leads to chronic hepatitis and prolonged carrier state. Twenty three children with chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) were treated with interferon alfa after the completion of chemotherapy of leukemias and lymphomas. In the majority of cases a disproportion between symptomless clinical course of the hepatitis B virus and the rate of its active replication was observed.
