Robust differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells into Schwann cells.

Research into Schwann cell (SC)-related diseases has been hampered by the difficulty of obtaining human-derived SCs, which have limited proliferative capacity. This has resulted in a delay in progress in drug discovery and cell therapy targeting SCs. To overcome these limitations, we developed a robust method for inducing the differentiation of human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) into SCs.

School-Based Stroke Education Through On-Demand E-learning During Coronavirus Disease 2019 Pandemic: Itoigawa Stroke Awareness Campaign.

Introduction Raising stroke awareness is important to shorten the interval from onset to consultation. We performed a school-based stroke education by on-demand e-learning during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. Methods We performed on-demand e-learning and distributed the online- and paper-based manga about stroke for students and parental guardians in August 2021.

Reverse lateral upper arm flaps for treating large soft tissue defects extending from the elbow to the forearm.

In this study, we report three cases wherein reverse lateral upper arm flaps were used to treat very large tissue defects extending from the elbow to the forearm. The flap sizes were 19 × 6.5 cm, 20 × 7 cm, and 17 × 7 cm.

The Janus kinase inhibitor (baricitinib) suppresses the rheumatoid arthritis active marker gliostatin/thymidine phosphorylase in human fibroblast-like synoviocytes.

Gliostatin/thymidine phosphorylase (GLS/TP) is known to have angiogenic and arthritogenic activities in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The novel oral Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitor baricitinib has demonstrated high efficacy in RA. However, the effect of baricitinib on fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLSs), a key component of invasive synovitis, has not been still elucidated.

A case of pubic abscess after prostate cancer surgery and radiotherapy treated with rectus femoris muscle flap.

We report the case of a 95-year-old man with soft tissue deficiency associated with a pubic abscess that occurred 30 years after prostate cancer surgery and radiation therapy. A fistula with purulent discharge without any obvious cause appeared in the midline of the lower abdomen and progressed to a soft tissue defect in which several calcium phosphate stones of 5-8 mm in diameter were found. Computed tomography showed calcium deposits on the surface of the pubis and irregular zonal calcifications extending from the pubis to the medial region of both thighs.
