Depression is a prevalent mental health condition in the United States and a significant cause of morbidity and mortality. The treatment guidelines for depression recommends either psychotherapy, such as behavioral activation (BA), or a second-generation antidepressant as a first-line treatment for adult patients with depression. However, many individuals with depression do not experience improvement from first-line treatments or choose not to engage in them due to stigma, cost, difficulty with access, and/or side effects.

Article Synopsis
  • Sleep deprivation (TSD) was studied in female mice to understand its effects on fertility, with no significant difference in ovulation rates but notable hormonal changes.
  • RNA sequencing revealed that 42 genes were differently expressed in oocytes from TSD mice, indicating issues with mitochondrial function and cell cycle processes.
  • The study concluded that TSD leads to oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction, resulting in oocyte defects and negatively impacting early embryo development.

CtBP-interacting protein (CtIP) is known for its multifaceted roles in DNA repair and genomic stability, directing the homologous recombination-mediated DNA double-stranded break repair pathway via DNA end resection, an essential error-free repair process vital for genome stability. Mammalian oocytes are highly prone to DNA damage accumulation due to prolonged G2/prophase arrest. Here, we explore the functions of CtIP in meiotic cell cycle regulation via a mouse oocyte model.
