The chemical composition of mainstream smoke from an electrically heated cigarette (EHC) and that of mainstream smoke from the University of Kentucky Reference Cigarette 1R4F was analyzed. In contrast to the 1R4F, which is a conventional, lit-end cigarette, the EHC is smoked in a microprocessor-controlled lighter with electrical heater elements. The electrical heating causes the tobacco under the heater element to burn at a low temperature during each puff.

Temporal stability of behaviorally evoked cardiovascular responses is important for theoretical (concept of activation) and practical (risk for cardiovascular diseases) reasons. As in test psychology, reliability of physiological responsivity depends on the degree of data aggregation across several measurements. This paper describes a statistical approach based on intra-class correlations.

The paper describes special problems of sampling toxic gases, very soluble in water, on workplaces with passive samplers. It is possible to construct such passive dosimeters which are suitable for the measurement of substances mentioned above if some peculiarities are taken in consideration. The stain-length passive dosimeters are specially analysed.

The passive dosimeter for hydrogen fluoride monitoring consists of a plastic box with 40 holes of 1 mm in diameter in the front side containing a Na2CO3-impregnated filter paper as the collection medium. The sampling rate of this dosimeter is independent of the exposure dose and temperature but depends on the relative humidity. At 20% relative humidity the sampling rate is 1.
