We present a robust, continuous molecular decelerator that employs high magnetic fields and few optical pumping steps. CaOH molecules are slowed, accumulating at low velocities in a range sufficient for loading both magnetic and magneto-optical traps. During the slowing, the molecules scatter only seven photons, removing around 8 K of energy.

Bioaerosols are known to be an important transmission pathway for SARS-CoV-2. We report a framework for estimating the risk of transmitting SARS-CoV-2 via aerosols in laboratory and office settings, based on an exponential dose-response model and analysis of air flow and purification in typical heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. High-circulation HVAC systems with high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filtration dramatically reduce exposure to the virus in indoor settings, and surgical masks or N95 respirators further reduce exposure.

We present a laser frequency stabilization system that uses a transfer interferometer to stabilize slave lasers to a reference laser. Our implementation uses off-the-shelf optical components along with microcontroller-based digital feedback, and offers a simple, flexible, and robust way to stabilize multiple laser frequencies to better than 1 MHz.

In human colorectal adenocarcinoma cell lines, we found two major transcripts of cyclooxygenase-2, the full-length mRNA and a short polyadenylation variant (2577 kb) lacking the distal segment of the 3'-untranslated region. Tristetraprolin, an mRNA-binding protein that promotes message instability, was shown to bind the cyclooxygenase-2 mRNA in the region of the 3'-untranslated region between nucleotides 3125 and 3432 and to reduce levels of the full-length mRNA. During cell growth and confluence, the expression of tristetraprolin mRNA was inversely correlated with that of the full-length cyclooxygenase-2 transcript, and transfection of tristetraprolin into HCA-7 cells reduced the level of full-length cyclooxygenase-2 mRNA.
