Seasonal drawdown of dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) in the subtropical upper ocean makes a significant contribution to net community production (NCP) globally. Although NCP requires macronutrient supply, surface macronutrients are chronically depleted, and their supply has been unable to balance the NCP demand. Here, we report nanomolar increases in surface nitrate plus nitrite (N+N, ~20 nM) and phosphate (PO, ~15 nM) from summer to winter in the western subtropical North Pacific.

Transient receptor potential vanilloid 1 (TRPV1) functions as a polymodal nociceptor and is activated by several vanilloids, including capsaicin, protons and heat. Although TRPV1 channels are widely distributed in the brain, their roles remain unclear. Here, we investigated the roles of TRPV1 in cytotoxic processes using TRPV1-expressing cultured rat cortical neurons.

We investigated the differences in safety and management of adverse events of chemotherapy among three hospitals, Sakai Municipal Hospital, Takarazuka Municipal Hospital and National Hospital Organization Osaka-minami Medical Center. The main purpose of this study was to equalize the spread of breast cancer chemotherapy regimen. The following three regimens were evaluated; epirubicin (75 mg/m(2)) /cyclophosphamide (500 mg/m(2)) (EC75), epirubicin (75 mg/m(2)) /cyclophosphamide (500 mg/m(2)) /5-fluorouracil (500 mg/m(2)) (FEC75) and epirubicin (100 mg/m(2)) / cyclophosphamide (500 mg/m(2)) /5-fluorouracil (500 mg/m(2)) (FEC100).

With the advent of advanced thoracoscopic techniques, new applications have been expanding their roles in thoracic surgery. The aim of this paper is to introduce our new thoracoscopic approach in performing parasternal lymph node dissection of advanced breast cancer for its staging.
