Physically induced pemphigus after cosmetic procedures.

Background: Pemphigus is a vesiculobullous autoimmune disease characterized by acantholysis due to antibodies against epidermal antigens.

Case Reports: We report the first two cases of pemphigus in which lesions appeared in areas traumatized by cosmetic procedures. In one case, the patient had a history of pemphigus under excellent control; pemphigus lesions appeared only in her surgical scars 2 months after a reduction mammoplasty and facelift.

Sweet syndrome in a neonate with aseptic meningitis.

A 7-week-old infant with antecedent otitis media, upper respiratory infection, and aseptic meningitis was diagnosed as having Sweet syndrome. Although this disease usually affects adults, it has been reported in 17 children. This is the youngest reported patient with the disorder to date, and the first in whom the syndrome was associated with aseptic meningitis.

Prevalence of and markers for the attenuated form of congenital adrenal hyperplasia and hyperprolactinemia masquerading as polycystic ovarian disease.

To determine the prevalence of the attenuated form of congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) and hyperprolactinemia (HPPN) relative to polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD), 100 consecutive women presenting with the classic clinical features of PCOD were evaluated by basal hormonal profiles and subsequent adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) stimulation tests. The study also sought biochemical markers for CAH other than ACTH stimulation. The prevalences were found to be as follows: PCOD, 65%; PCOD with HPPN, 9%; HPPN, 3%, end-organ hypersensitivity (EOH), 4%; homozygotic CAH, 4%; and heterozygotic CAH, 15%.

Topical vitamin E as a cause of erythema multiforme-like eruption.

The topical use of vitamin E on scar tissue resulted in a generalized erythema multiforme reaction in two patients. Patch tests with vitamin E oil showed positive local reactions in both.
