Levels of parathyroid hormone and IGF binding protein 1 and associations with mortality and hip fractures in older women.

In this study we examined the effect of simultaneously elevated levels of parathyroid hormone (PTH) (≥ 65 ng/mL) and high levels of insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 1 (IGFBP-1) on the 10-year risk of all-cause mortality and hip fractures. Blood tests for levels of PTH and IGFBP-1 was collected at baseline in 338 community-dwelling women in Stockholm aged between 69 and 79 years. Data on hip fractures and all-cause mortality over the next 10 years were retrieved from healthcare registers.

Stability of anthocyanin extracts from chokeberry, grape, hibiscus, and purple sweet potato in ω-3-fatty acid rich oil-in-water emulsions.

The food industry is actively investigating the stability of natural red pigments to replace artificial food colorants from all food applications in the near future. In this study, the stability of coloring extracts from chokeberry, grape, hibiscus, and purple sweet potato was investigated in ω-3 fatty acid-rich flaxseed oil-in-water emulsion during storage. The red color of the oil-in-water emulsions faded within 4 days, indicating that the anthocyanin extracts were susceptible to lipid oxidation reactions of the ω-3 fatty acids.

The estimated 10-year risk of first-onset cardiovascular disease in Swedish-born and non-Swedish-born primary healthcare patients.

Background: SCORE2 has been introduced as an updated risk assessment tool for calculating the 10-year risk of first-onset cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, it does not account for ethnicity or socioeconomic status, known to affect CVD risk. This study investigated and compared SCORE2 estimates in Swedish-born and non-Swedish-born primary healthcare patients.

Quantitative measurement of geodiversity uniqueness: research implications and conservation applications.

Quantitative approaches are needed to complement qualitative explorations to identify sites with unique geodiversity and thereby guide geoconservation and geoheritage programmes. Here, we introduce the concept and associated index of 'geodiversity uniqueness'. This index is based on a numerical analysis of geofeatures and allows the identification of sites with unique geodiversity in a study area.

Geodiversity is an essential part of nature's diversity. However, geodiversity is insufficiently understood in terms of its spatial distribution and its relationship to biodiversity over large spatial extents. Here, we present European geodiversity data at resolutions of 1 km and 10 km.
