Background: Multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs) are prevalent on high-touch surfaces in multi-patient rooms.
Aim: To quantify the impact of hanging single-use cleaning/disinfecting wipes next to each bed. Pre-specified outcomes were: (1) hospital-acquired infections (HAIs), (2) cleaning frequency, (3) MDRO room contamination, (4) new MDRO acquisitions, and (5) mortality.
Unlabelled: A laser tweezer technique based on single and/or dual-laser beams is proposed as a biophotonic tool to trap single cells and investigate their biophysical and biomechanical characteristics. Optical deformability and changes in size and cellular morphology of living and nonliving cells can be measured using the proposed technique. Representative results of red blood cell (RBC) optical deformability of 20 homozygous patients with sickle cell disease, including follow-up patients after treating with hydroxyurea (HU) for at least 3 months and 20 healthy control groups, are presented and compared.

Here, a dual-mode polarized single-laser tweezers technique with distinct principal axes exhibiting different polarization states is presented and designed to investigate the deformation, optical folding, and rotation of single living cells with one measurement. RBC optical folding and rotation speed are measured in patients with sickle cell disease (SCD), including follow up of patients after hydroxyurea (HU) treatment for at least three months.

Objective: Administration of antimicrobials to patients with asymptomatic bacteriuria (ASB) is a common error that can lead to worse outcomes. However, controlled analyses quantifying the commonality and impact of this practice are lacking. We analyzed the independent predictors for antimicrobials misuse in ASB and quantified the impact of this practice on clinical outcomes.
