Article Synopsis
  • Restoring lateral lip defects while maintaining mouth function and aesthetics has been a significant challenge, but a study from 2006 to 2022 explored a modified McGregor fan flap technique for reconstruction.
  • The study involved 126 flap procedures on 122 patients with lower lip defects between 30-100% in size, with a notable success in vermilion reconstruction and no complications reported.
  • All patients achieved normal mouth opening within three months, and the technique is considered reliable for moderate to large defects, though different methods may be needed for cases with buccal mucosa involvement.
