Background: Recent advances in multimodal signal analysis enable the identification of subtle drug-induced anomalies in sleep that traditional methods often miss.

New Method: We develop and introduce the Dynamic Representation of Multimodal Activity and Markov States (DREAMS) framework, which embeds explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) techniques to model hidden state transitions during sleep using tensorized EEG, EMG, and EOG signals from 22 subjects across three age groups (18-29, 30-49, and 50-66 years). By combining Tucker decomposition with probabilistic Hidden Markov Modeling, we quantified age-specific, temazepam-induced hidden states and significant differences in transition probabilities.

Following a stroke, compensation for the loss of ipsilesional corticospinal and corticobulbar projections, results in increased reliance on contralesional motor pathways during paretic arm movement. Better understanding outcomes of post-stroke contralesional cortical adaptation outcomes may benefit more targeted post-stroke motor rehabilitation interventions. This proof-of-concept study involves eight healthy controls and ten post-stroke participants.

Recent advances in computational modeling techniques have facilitated a more nuanced understanding of sleep neural dynamics across the lifespan. In this study, we tensorize multiscale multimodal electroencephalogram (EEG), electromyogram (EMG), and electrooculogram (EOG) signals and apply Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedasticity (GARCH) modeling to quantify interactions between age scales and the use of pharmacological sleep aids on sleep stage transitions. Our cohort consists of 22 subjects in a crossover design study, where each subject received both a sleep aid and a placebo in different sessions.

Olive leaves (OLLs) are an exceptional bioresource of natural polyphenols with proven antioxidant activity, yet the applicability of OLL extracts is constrained by the relatively high polarity of the major polyphenols, which occur as glycosides. To overcome this limitation, OLLs were subjected to both hydrothermal and ethanol organosolv treatments, fostered by acid catalysis to solicit in parallel increased polyphenol recovery and polyphenol modification into simpler, lower-polarity substances. After an initial screening of natural organic acids, oxalic acid (OxAc) was found to be the highest-performing catalyst.

The Cu-doped titanium oxide (Cu/TiO) nanocomposite was systematically prepared using the innovatively feasible incipient wet impregnation method. Notably, the samples were derived from the raw materials through water dilution only. The successful formation of the host anatase TiO phase was confirmed by the characteristic peaks observed in the acquired X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) spectrum, which displayed intense peaks attributed to Cu scattering sites, indicating the formation of crystallite Cu/TiO nanostructures.
