Interfacial engineering for biomolecule immobilisation in microfluidic devices.

Microfluidic devices are used for various applications in biology and medicine. From on-chip modelling of human organs for drug screening and fast and straightforward point-of-care (POC) detection of diseases to sensitive biochemical analysis, these devices can be custom-engineered using low-cost techniques. The microchannel interface is essential for these applications, as it is the interface of immobilised biomolecules that promote cell capture, attachment and proliferation, sense analytes and metabolites or provide enzymatic reaction readouts.

Treatment in persistent genital arousal disorder: a scoping review.

Background: Persistent genital arousal disorder (PGAD) is a rare condition characterized by unwanted and distressing symptoms of arousal and dysesthesia. The aim of this scoping review was to map the current state of PGAD management, identify gaps in the literature, and understand patient perspectives.

Methods: We completed a scoping review following guidelines from the Joanna Briggs Institute and the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta Analyses Scoping Reviews extension.

Knowledge, Attitudes, and Beliefs Regarding Medical Cannabis Among Patients and Providers in Florida's Long-Term Care Facilities.

Objectives: Medical cannabis (MC) has been found effective in treating multiple symptoms commonly experienced by older adults; however, residents in long-term care (LTC) often lack access to MC products. This study seeks to identify patterns and barriers to recommending MC to patients and to explore the knowledge and attitudes toward MC use among patients and providers.

Methods: The quantitative portion of this study employed a survey to assess the knowledge of, attitudes toward, and barriers to MC among 126 providers in Florida LTC.

New-Onset Gaze Palsy in a Sports-Related Concussion.

Concussions are a common injury in pediatric sports medicine clinics. Occasionally, a patient presenting for concussion will demonstrate abnormal neurologic findings, but in this case, a gaze palsy was witnessed during the initial 2 weeks following closed head injury with subsequent complete resolution of symptoms. There are limited available studies or case reports demonstrating this atypical presentation; thus, this case study aims to provide sports medicine physicians a reference for future similar atypical presentations.

A cross-sectional analysis of reporting guideline and clinical trial registration policies in nephrology journals.

Objective: To determine the extent to which nephrology journals recommend and require reporting guideline adherence and clinical trial registration.

Background: Despite a rising disease burden, research published on chronic kidney disease (CKD) and the field of nephrology has failed to keep pace and is limited. To improve the quality of research in the field of nephrology, reporting guidelines have been developed to minimize such deficits in research quality.
