Biological tissues are exposed to X-rays in medical applications (such as diagnosis and radiotherapy) and in research studies (for example microcomputed X-ray tomography: microCT). Radiotherapy may deliver doses up to 50Gy to both tumour and healthy tissues, resulting in undesirable clinical side effects which can compromise quality of life. Whilst cellular responses to X-rays are relatively well-characterised, X-ray-induced structural damage to the extracellular matrix (ECM) is poorly understood.

This study investigates the delivery of a neutral solute through a porous-walled microtube with sinusoidal roughness under mixed electroosmotic flow pumping, using an external direct current electric field. The effects of various operating conditions, geometries, and properties of the wall, solute, and solvent are investigated. The novelty of this work lies in exploring the impact of sinusoidal roughness on the solute mass flux delivery.

Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy (LC) is a minimally invasive surgery for the removal of diseased gallbladders. Compared to traditional open cholecystectomy, LC procedures is associated with significantly shorter recovery period, but has an increased chance of bile duct injuries (BDIs). Critical view of safety (CVS) is an important validation method and safety protocol which has a set of conditions that can be visually identified during LC surgeries.

In Drosophila, two interacting adhesion protein families, Defective proboscis responses (Dprs) and Dpr interacting proteins (DIPs), coordinate the assembly of neural networks. While intercellular DIP::Dpr interactions have been well characterized, DIPs and Dprs are often co-expressed within the same cells, raising the question as to whether they also interact in cis. We show, in cultured cells and in vivo, that DIP-α and DIP-δ can interact in cis with their ligands, Dpr6/10 and Dpr12, respectively.

The circular economy concept has gained momentum as a potential solution to resource scarcity and environmental sustainability. While most circular economy strategies focus on environmental and economic aspects, social factors such as labor practices, community well-being, and worker safety have received limited attention. This study examines the relationship between cleaner production, sustainability strategies, and CE safety across various activities.
