Exercise and arrhythmic risk in TMEM43 p.S358L arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy.

Background: High-level exercise has been associated with a malignant phenotype in desmosomal and genotype-negative forms of arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC). This is the first study to examine this issue with ARVC secondary to the TMEM43 p.S358L mutation.

Nurse-led hypnotherapy: an innovative approach to Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

Introduction: Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is a common, chronic functional illness, which can greatly reduce patients' quality of life, and consumes healthcare resources. Standard treatments include dietary changes and medication, though these are often ineffective.

Research: Clinical studies of hypnotherapy demonstrate improvement in symptoms and quality of life in over 80% of subjects with intractable IBS.

Designing and delivering a hypnotherapy service for irritable bowel syndrome in primary care.

Evidence-based guidelines recommend hypnotherapy as a treatment option for intractable irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). However, few National Health Service (NHS) hypnotherapy services are in place. We report the experiences and results from the only NHS-funded primary care service for IBS hypnotherapy in England (as identified by a telephone audit of 151 Primary Care Trusts (PCT) in England in February 2011).

Degradation of persistent organic pollutants by Fenton's reagent facilitated by microwave or high-intensity ultrasound.

Microwave (MW) and high-intensity ultrasound (US) have emerged as powerful techniques for the elimination of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) that constitute a major health hazard, whether by direct exposure or through accumulation in biota. In order to achieve decontamination, POPs should be completely mineralized to CO2, H2O and smaller amounts of inorganic ions, or at least converted to less harmful chemical species. Under US or MW irradiation rapid degradation of aromatic halides, halogenated phenols and polychlorinated biphenyls in polluted waters was achieved at neutral pH in the presence of a moderate excess (5-30 eq) of Fenton's reagent.

The role of pelvic floor exercises on post-prostatectomy incontinence.

Purpose: Post-radical prostatectomy incontinence occurs in 0.5% to 87% of patients. This condition may be attributable to intrinsic sphincteric deficiency, and/or detrusor abnormalities.
