Aims: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a potential complication of foot and ankle surgery. There is a lack of agreement on contributing risk factors and chemical prophylaxis requirements. The primary outcome of this study was to analyze the 90-day incidence of symptomatic VTE and VTE-related mortality in patients undergoing foot and ankle surgery and Achilles tendon (TA) rupture.

Radiological angle assessment of Haglund's deformity: validation on Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Purpose: Haglund's deformity, an abnormality at the postero-superior corner of the calcaneus is a common cause of posterior heel pain. To date numerous measurements of radiological angles related to the calcaneus have been proposed to differentiate between symptomatic and asymptomatic patients with the deformity. Traditionally, these measurements have been assessed on plain radiographs.

Isolated, periosteal stripping injuries of the Flexor Retinaculum: Case series of 3 patients with clinico-radiological review.

Isolated periosteal avulsion injuries of the flexor retinaculum on the medial side of the ankle are rare and may mimic osseous injuries or deltoid ligament tears. We describe a case series of 3 individuals with isolated, stripping injuries of the tibial attachment of the flexor retinaculum without underlying fracture or deltoid ligament disruption. A new classification system of flexor retinaculum periosteal stripping injuries of the ankle is proposed with clinico-radiological features.

Preventing pressure ulcers from paediatric femoral traction: use of an audit cycle to assess a new concise manual and a daily care chart.

Introduction: Femoral shaft fractures are common in children up to 14 years of age and traction is frequently used during their treatment. A lack of training and unfamiliarity of junior doctors and nursing staff with this treatment modality may lead to unfavourable skin complications, especially in the absence of regular monitoring. We introduced and audited a simple and reproducible way of monitoring these patients.

Double calcaneal osteotomy with minimally invasive surgery for the treatment of severe flexible flatfeet.

Background: Severe flexible flatfoot deformity in children and adolescents is a complex problem. Calcaneal lengthening remains the gold standard for surgical correction at this institution. However, in a minority of patients, inadequate correction of valgus is noted at surgery and a further calcaneal shift osteotomy is done.
