Background: Popular trend sports are characterized by intensive and high speed performance. Due to the high energy mechanism in falls, typical injury distributions and patterns result.

Objectives: In a retrospective study the injury patterns and frequencies in mountain bike athletes were analyzed and pathophysiological, diagnostic and therapeutic options in the treatment of high energy injuries to the carpal bones are shown.

Patients And Methods: In all, 1,014 newly diagnosed CP-CML patients were randomly assigned to imatinib 800 mg/d (n = 338), imatinib 400 mg/d (n = 325), or imatinib 400 mg/d plus interferon alfa (IFN-α; n = 351).

[Concomitant injuries of distal radius fractures].

Background: Following treatment of distal radius fractures poor functional results can still be found despite satisfactory radiological findings. This may be due to concomitant carpal lesions occurring together with these fractures. The aim of this prospective study was to analyze the clinical outcome depending on the type of fracture and concomitant carpal lesions.

[Mountainbike injuries in world-cup and recreational athletes].

This study investigated the incidence and frequency of injuries in mountainbike sports among competitive and recreational athletes. In a retrospective study design mountain-bike athletes were interviewed by means of a standardized questionnaire with regard to sports injuries and damages within the previous two years. The evaluation of time relative injury-rate was carried out under consideration of class and competition discipline.

Early allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) has been proposed as primary treatment modality for patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). This concept has been challenged by transplantation mortality and improved drug therapy. In a randomized study, primary HSCT and best available drug treatment (IFN based) were compared in newly diagnosed chronic phase CML patients.
