Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the antitumoral effects of 7-epi-nemorosone, a plant compound, on prostate cancer cell lines due to the need for better treatment options as current therapies often fail due to metastasis and resistance.
  • It was found that 7-epi-nemorosone induces cell death through apoptosis in LNCaP prostate carcinoma cells without causing cross-resistance in a multidrug-resistant sub-line.
  • The mechanism involves down-regulation of critical proteins associated with cell cycle progression and signaling pathways, including the reduction of androgen receptor activity and alterations in kinase functions important for cell survival.

Background: This study investigates the influence of epithelial-mesenchymal transition on prognosis in breast cancer.

Materials And Methods: Eighty breast carcinomas as well as 6 breast cancer cell lines were analysed immunohistochemically for the expression of epithelial keratins (K) K8, K19 and mesenchymal vimentin. Protein expression was correlated with histopathological factors and clinical follow-up.

Dendritic cells (DCs) are potent antigen-presenting cells which are key leukocytes in the initiation of cell-mediated organ graft rejection, antiviral immunity, and antitumor responses. In this study we demonstrate that genetic modification of primary human and mouse DCs by adenoviral gene transfer is an effective means of induction and modulation of antigen presentation by DCs. An adenovirus vector (AdLacZ) was used to express an intracellular model antigen beta-galactosidase (beta-gal) in DCs.
