Osteoarthritis of the knee (OAK), a progressive degenerative disease affecting quality of life, is characterized by cartilage degeneration, synovial inflammation, and osteophyte formation causing pain and disability. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an autologous blood product effective in reducing OAK-associated pain. PRP compositions depend on their purification.

Article Synopsis
  • Optical phase-insensitive heterodyne detection is important for precise spatial and temporal measurements, but it suffers from sensitivity limits due to shot noise in both the signal and image bands.
  • Researchers propose using squeezed light to eliminate shot noise from these bands, addressing the known 3-dB noise penalty.
  • Experimental results confirm that this method reduces shot noise from both bands simultaneously, potentially enhancing the sensitivity of measurements beyond current capabilities.

Four new psammaplysin derivatives (1-4) with fatty acyl substituents, designated irciniaplysins A-D, and three known psammaplysins (5-7) were isolated from a marine sponge Ircinia sp. Their structures were elucidated using extensive spectroscopic analyses. The positions of the double bonds and the branch points of the fatty acyl side chains were determined by GC-MS analysis of their fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) derivatives.

Article Synopsis
  • This study looked at patients in Japan who have myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) and also developed lymphoid cancers.
  • Researchers wanted to see how these patients were treated for their lymphoid cancers, like lymphoma, while also managing their MPNs.
  • The results showed that most patients could still receive strong treatments for their lymphoid cancers, especially for a type called diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, without making their MPN treatment worse.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is an important risk factor for cardiovascular disease, thrombosis, and all-cause death. However, few studies have examined the association between CKD and the prognosis of patients with essential thrombocythemia (ET). We collected ET patients who met the WHO classification 2017 and performed a retrospective clinical study to clarify the association between the presence and onset of CKD and prognosis.
