Article Synopsis
  • - The study focused on myofibroblasts and how a vaccine targeting fibroblast activation protein (FAP) might help reduce cardiac fibrosis in mice with chronic cardiac stress.
  • - Mice were vaccinated with a FAP peptide while undergoing continuous treatment with angiotensin II and phenylephrine, resulting in a significant decrease in both cardiac fibrosis and the number of myofibroblasts.
  • - The findings suggest that the FAP vaccine is a promising therapeutic option for cardiac fibrosis without causing harmful side effects in other injury models, indicating its potential for future treatments.

Background And Aim: Werner syndrome (WS) is an autosomal recessive, adult-onset, progeroid syndrome caused by mutations. As refractory skin ulcers significantly affect the quality of life of patients with WS, this study identified ulcer risk factors and assessed prevention methods.

Methods: We analyzed the data of 51 patients with WS enrolled in the Japanese Werner Syndrome Registry between 2016 and 2022.

Article Synopsis
  • Plants use pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) like EFR and FLS2 to detect bacterial pathogens and activate their immune response via RBOHD.
  • QSK1, identified as a protein associated with the PRR-RBOHD complex, acts as a negative regulator by downregulating EFR and FLS2, leading to suppressed immunity.
  • The bacterial effector HopF2Pto manipulates QSK1 to inhibit immune responses, demonstrating the sophisticated interplay between plant defense mechanisms and pathogen strategies.

To combat the spread of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), novel vaccine modalities, such as messenger RNA vaccines, were rapidly developed and have shown high efficacy. This new vaccine technology, underpinned by intensive immunological analysis, is now being applied to the production of other vaccines. For over 10 years, we have been developing therapeutic vaccines for non-infectious diseases.

To ensure an even segregation of chromosomes during somatic cell division, eukaryotes rely on mitotic spindles. Here, we measured prime characteristics of the Arabidopsis mitotic spindle and built a three-dimensional dynamic model using Cytosim. We identified the cell-cycle regulator CYCLIN-DEPENDENT KINASE B1 (CDKB1) together with its cyclin partner CYCB3;1 as key regulators of spindle morphology in Arabidopsis.
