Article Synopsis
  • NMV/RTV and ESV are oral antivirals for COVID-19 that can interact with the drug tacrolimus (TAC), used by kidney transplant patients, leading to increased TAC levels.
  • In three case studies with kidney transplant recipients, TAC levels rose significantly when patients took NMV/RTV (over tenfold) and moderately with ESV (about threefold).
  • The findings recommend discontinuing TAC while on NMV/RTV and suggest that a reduced TAC dose may be adequate when using ESV.

Drug-coated balloons (DCBs) are expected to reduce stent-associated complications.
