3,5-disubstituted pyridines with potent activity against drug-resistant clinical isolates.

We designed and synthesized a series of compounds with a 3,5-disubstituted pyridine moiety and evaluated them against (Mtb) and drug-resistant Mtb clinical isolates. A library of 3,5-disubstituted pyridine was synthesized. The compounds were screened for activity against H37Rv.

The arylsulfonamides were synthesized from aryl sulfonyl chloride and aromatic amines in dichloromethane in the presence of pyridine. The aryne chemistry was used to prepare diarylsulfonamide from arylsulfonamides and O-silylaryl triflate with CsF in acetonitrile at room temperature for 30 min. The synthesized compounds were evaluated for cytotoxicity followed by the cytokine/inflammatory marker's inhibition capability and its mechanism of action in RAW-264.

Iron mediated reductive cyclization/oxidation for the generation of chemically diverse scaffolds: An approach in drug discovery.

Chemically diverse scaffolds represent a main source of biologically important starting points in drug discovery. Herein, we report the development of such diverse scaffolds from nitroarene/ nitro(hetero)arenes using a key synthetic strategy. In a pilot-scale study, the synthesis of 10 diverse scaffolds was achieved.

Surgical management of extrahepatic portal vein obstruction in children: advantages of MesoRex shunt compared with distal splenorenal shunt.

Purpose: To review surgical management of extrahepatic portal vein obstruction (EHPVO) at Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital and compare MesoRex shunt (MRS) with distal splenorenal shunt (DSRS).

Methods: This is a single-centre retrospective review documenting pre- and post-operative data in 21 children. Twenty-two shunts were performed, 15 MRS and 7 DSRS, over an 18-year period.
