Cardiovascular risk profiling among South Asian adults in Hong Kong: a latent class analysis.

Background: South Asians living in urbanized settings are facing disproportionate cardiovascular burden largely attributable to modifiable risk factors. Given the rapid surge in South Asian population in Hong Kong, this study aims to identify and distinguish clusters of cardiovascular risk profiles among community-dwelling South Asian adults.

Methods: Between June 2022 and December 2023, 1181 South Asian adults were recruited through territory-wide outreach health assessments on lifestyle, psychological distress, obesity, clinical cardiovascular conditions, and sociodemographic factors.

Emerging organic micropollutants as serious environmental problem: A comprehensive review.

The escalating problem of environmental pollution can be attributed to the accelerated pace of global development, which often prioritizes human needs over planetary health. Despite huge global attempts endeavours to mitigate legacy pollutants, the uninterrupted introduction of novel substances such as the emerging organic micropollutants (EOMs) represents a significant menace to the natural environment and all forms of life on the earth. The widespread occurrence of EOMs in water and wastewater is a consequence of both their growing consumption as well as the limitations of the conventional wastewater treatment methods containing such pollutants resulting in deterioration of water quality and its supplies as well as this is a significant challenge for researchers and the scientific community alike.

Our Daughters-Ourselves: Evaluating the Impact of Paired Cervical Cancer Screening of Mothers with HPV Vaccination for Daughters to Improve HPV Vaccine Coverage in Bamako, Mali.

Cervical cancer (CC) is the second most common cancer in Western Africa, accounting for 12,000 cases and 6000 deaths annually. While vaccination against human papilloma virus (HPV) and CC screenings reduce the incidence and mortality of CC in many developed countries, 90% of CC deaths are in low-income countries. Lack of knowledge about the connection between HPV and CC, lack of access to vaccines and screenings, weak healthcare infrastructure, and stigma related to sexually transmitted diseases are among the factors that contribute to this disparity.

Risk Factors Associated With General and Abdominal Obesity Among South Asian Minorities in Hong Kong.

South Asians have become a sizable ethnic minority in Hong Kong with unique health and social needs often being overlooked. Elevated obesity risk among South Asians has been highlighted in high-income Western settings; however, relevant local evidence is scarce. This cross-sectional study aims to explore the obesity prevalence and related risk factors among South Asians in Hong Kong.
