Social relations between students from two groups in conflict: Differences in stereotypes and perceived social distance between Jewish and Arab nursing students.

Background: The heterogeneous nature of the nursing profession generates encounters between members of different groups. Thus, nursing education should include programs focusing on cultural sensitivity to enhance cultural competence. Due to the ongoing conflict between Arabs and Jews, Israel is an appropriate setting for examining cultural sensitivity programs.

Short stature, celiac disease and growth hormone deficiency.

Celiac disease (CD) is a prevalent, genetically determined, autoimmune, chronic inflammatory state caused by intolerance to gluten that results mainly in gastrointestinal manifestations. One of the most common extra-intestinal manifestations of CD is short stature, and in some patients, short stature may be the presenting and only symptom of the disease, making the diagnosis of CD challenging. Impaired growth in children with CD results mainly from nutritional deficits, and withdrawal of gluten from the diet is frequently associated with a marked improvement of linear growth.

Continuous avoidance measures with or without acaricide in dust mite-allergic asthmatic children.

Background: Improvement in the quality of life in the Western world and increased time spent indoors by children have enhanced the spread of house dust mites and increased the exposure time for sensitive children. Also, exposure to house dust mites in infancy and subsequent development of childhood asthma have been clinically linked. Recently, new acaricides have been developed.

Thrombocytosis after pneumonia with empyema and other bacterial infections in children.

Thrombocytosis is seen in association with many conditions, including infectious diseases. We studied thrombocytosis after severe bacterial infections, particularly pneumonia with empyema in children. A systematic survey of the phenomenon was conducted.
