Inactivation Effects of Hypochlorous Acid, Chlorine Dioxide, and Ozone on Airborne SARS-CoV-2 and Influenza A Virus.

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and influenza A virus are primarily transmitted through droplets or aerosols from patients. The inactivation effects of existing virus control techniques may vary depending on the environmental factors. Therefore, it is important to establish a suitable evaluation system for assessing virus control techniques against airborne viruses for further real-world implementation.

Clinical course and management of pediatric gastroduodenal perforation beyond neonatal period.

Background: The treatments and outcomes of pediatric gastroduodenal perforations have rarely been described.

Methods: We retrospectively identified 515 patients aged 28 days to 17 years who were hospitalized for gastroduodenal perforation between July 2010 and March 2021 using a nationwide inpatient database. We compared characteristics, treatments, and outcomes for pediatric gastroduodenal perforation between children aged <7 years (n = 38) and ≥7 years (n = 477).

Visualization of Stress Fiber Formation Induced by Photodynamic Therapy with Porphylipoprotein.

We investigated stress fiber formation induced by photodynamic therapy (PDT) with porphylipoprotein (PLP) by observing actin filaments by super-resolution confocal microscopy and measuring the cellular elastic modulus by atomic force microscopy. We identified different intracellular mechanisms of stress fiber formation between RGM1 epithelial cells, which were derived from rat gastric mucosa, and RGK1 cells, which were cancer-like mutants of RGM1. Our findings show that when PLP is used as a photosensitizer in PDT, it selectively induces necrosis in tumors with minimal impact on the surrounding normal tissues, as it is less likely to cause blood flow obstruction.

Treatment-related skin reactions in enfortumab vedotin as a surrogate marker of survival and treatment response.

Background: Treatment-related skin reactions (TRSRs) induced by enfortumab vedotin (EV) targeting nectin-4 are among the most common adverse events. However, their association with survival and treatment response is poorly understood.

Methods: We retrospectively identified patients who received EV from December 2021 to April 2023 at Nagoya University Hospital and its affiliated facilities and extracted clinical data from their medical records.
