Quantum entanglement control of electron-phonon systems by light irradiation.

We numerically study the dynamics of quantum entanglement between interacting electron-phonon and qubit-spin systems under photoirradiation, employing a model of multiple spins and boson modes. The interplay of the antiferromagnetic exchange and electron-phonon interactions provides us with a phase diagram, wherein each phase is characterized by the ground state property of the electron-phonon system. Light irradiation of the electron-phonon system facilitates the generation of quantum entanglement, according to the spin configuration and the phonon state in the ground state.

Statistical characterization of urban CO emission signals observed by commercial airliner measurements.

Cities are responsible for the largest anthropogenic CO emissions and are key to effective emission reduction strategies. Urban CO emissions estimated from vertical atmospheric measurements can contribute to an independent quantification of the reporting of national emissions and will thus have political implications. We analyzed vertical atmospheric CO mole fraction data obtained onboard commercial aircraft in proximity to 36 airports worldwide, as part of the Comprehensive Observation Network for Trace gases by Airliners (CONTRAIL) program.

Assessing Lagrangian inverse modelling of urban anthropogenic CO fluxes using in situ aircraft and ground-based measurements in the Tokyo area.

Background: In order to use in situ measurements to constrain urban anthropogenic emissions of carbon dioxide (CO), we use a Lagrangian methodology based on diffusive backward trajectory tracer reconstructions and Bayesian inversion. The observations of atmospheric CO were collected within the Tokyo Bay Area during the Comprehensive Observation Network for TRace gases by AIrLiner (CONTRAIL) flights, from the Tsukuba tall tower of the Meteorological Research Institute (MRI) of the Japan Meteorological Agency and at two surface sites (Dodaira and Kisai) from the World Data Center for Greenhouse Gases (WDCGG).

Results: We produce gridded estimates of the CO emissions and calculate the averages for different areas within the Kanto plain where Tokyo is located.

Assessment of the circulating klotho protein in lung cancer patients.

The anti-aging factor, klotho has been identified as a tumor suppressor in various human cancers, including lung cancer. In vitro studies provided evidence that klotho expression influences the characteristics of lung cancer cells, however, in vivo results are lacking. The aim of our study was to evaluate whether circulating klotho protein might serve as a potential biomarker of lung cancer.

Membranous tracheal stenosis in a patient with anorexia nervosa and self-induced vomiting- challenges in securing the airway.

We report a rare case of acquired membranous tracheal stenosis in a patient with anorexia nervosa and a history of self-induced vomiting, but without a history of tracheal intubation or tracheostomy. A 50-year-old woman presented with difficulty in breathing and swallowing, self-expectoration, and impaired consciousness due to acute benzodiazepine intoxication. Bronchoscopic examination was performed after tracheotomy and placement of a tracheostomy tube failed to secure her respiratory tract and ventilation continued to deteriorate.
