Purpose: Risk of total extraperitoneal hernia repair (TEP) in patients with previous lower abdominal surgery (PLAS) is still debated. The present study was designed to assess the rate of conversion in TEP for inguinal hernia stratified by type of PLAS.

Methods: Variables on patients undergoing TEP inguinal hernia repair at our center were prospectively collected between July 2012 and May 2018.

The determination of magnetic structure poses a long-standing challenge in condensed matter physics and materials science. Experimental techniques such as neutron diffraction are resource-limited and require complex structure refinement protocols, while computational approaches such as first-principles density functional theory (DFT) need additional semi-empirical correction, and reliable prediction is still largely limited to collinear magnetism. Here, we present a machine learning model that aims to classify the magnetic structure by inputting atomic coordinates containing transition metal and rare earth elements.

Extrachromosomal genetic elements such as bacterial endosymbionts and plasmids generally exhibit AT-contents that are increased relative to their hosts' DNA. The AT-bias of endosymbiotic genomes is commonly explained by neutral evolutionary processes such as a mutational bias towards increased A+T. Here we show experimentally that an increased AT-content of host-dependent elements can be selectively favoured.

Three-dimensional scaffolds have the capacity to serve as an architectural framework to guide and promote tissue regeneration. Parameters such as the type of material, growth factors, and pore dimensions are therefore critical in the scaffold's success. In this study, heparin has been covalently bound to the surface of macroporous polyurethane (PU) discs via two different loading methods to determine if the amount of heparin content had an influence on the therapeutic affinity loading and release of (VEGF ) in full thickness skin defects.
