Bread wheat (Triticum aestivum) is a globally dominant crop and major source of calories and proteins for the human diet. Compared with its wild ancestors, modern bread wheat shows lower genetic diversity, caused by polyploidisation, domestication and breeding bottlenecks. Wild wheat relatives represent genetic reservoirs, and harbour diversity and beneficial alleles that have not been incorporated into bread wheat.

Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to compare the effectiveness and outcomes of four different surgical techniques for treating large idiopathic full-thickness macular holes in the eye.
  • The researchers analyzed data from 129 eyes over a period ranging from January 2018 to October 2022, finding a general anatomical success rate of 81%, although the standard internal limiting membrane (ILM) peel technique had significantly lower success at 59%.
  • Results showed that the pedicle transposition technique not only led to better visual recovery (27 ETDRS letters gained) compared to the free flap technique (12 letters gained) but also resulted in superior restoration of eye microstructure at both 3 and 6 months post-surgery.
