Modern photon counting detectors allow the calculation of virtual monoenergetic or material decomposed X-ray images but are not yet used for dental panoramic radiography systems. To assess the diagnostic potential and image quality of photon counting detectors in dental panoramic radiography, ethics approval from the local ethics committee was obtained for this retrospective study. Conventional CT scans of the head and neck region were segmented into bone and soft tissue.

The objective of this study was to determine the effectiveness of upper extremity orthoses on improving performance skills and performance of occupations after stroke. Databases searched included CINAHL, PubMed, and OT Seeker. Articles were included if published between 2012 to 2022, English, peer-reviewed, level of evidence IB, IIB, or IIIB, and included upper extremity orthoses, adults after a stroke, and performance skill and performance of occupation outcome measures; six studies meet inclusion criteria.

Article Synopsis
  • Achieving safe sanitation in rural or densely populated areas can be challenging due to the high costs and space needed for traditional sewer systems; nonsewered sanitation (NSS) options, like the NEWgenerator, offer a potential solution with effective wastewater treatment capabilities.
  • The NEWgenerator combines anaerobic processes and nutrient recovery technology, providing adequate waste treatment for over 100 users, but its overall environmental sustainability and financial viability require further analysis.
  • Cost analysis shows that while using grid electricity results in lower upfront costs and higher greenhouse gas emissions, switching to solar energy increases costs slightly but significantly reduces GHG emissions; locations such as China and India offer promising cost reductions for

In resource-limited settings, conventional sanitation systems often fail to meet their goals-with system failures stemming from a mismatch among community needs, constraints, and deployed technologies. Although decision-making tools exist to help assess the appropriateness of conventional sanitation systems in a specific context, there is a lack of a holistic decision-making framework to guide sanitation research, development, and deployment (RD&D) of technologies. In this study, we introduce DMsan-an open-source multi-criteria decision analysis Python package that enables users to transparently compare sanitation and resource recovery alternatives and characterize the opportunity space for early-stage technologies.

Panoramic x-ray imaging is a versatile, low-dose imaging tool, which is routinely used for dental applications. In this work, we explore a further improvement of the concept by introducing recently developed spectral photon-counting detector technology into a conventional panoramic imaging unit. In addition we adapt spectral material decomposition algorithms to panoramic imaging needs.
