A study was conducted in order to examine the possible influence of feeding behaviour on differences in the diversity and the intensity of nematode infections of the gastrointestinal tract between two breeds of goats placed in the same rangeland environment. Within the same flock bred on rangeland conditions, 10 Saanen dairy goats and 14 Angora goats were surveyed for 5 months (from May to September) and parasitological and behavioural parameters were measured. The level of nematode infection was estimated by monthly measurements of faecal egg counts whereas the feeding behaviour was assessed every fortnight.

Mono-2 and mono-6-O-pentenyl-beta-cyclodextrin (mono-2-pent-beta-CD and mono-6-pent-beta-CD), covalently linked to mercaptopropylsilica gel (thiol-Si) through thioether or sulfone linkage, reveal differentiated enantioselectivities in the separation of piperidine-2,6-dione-related drugs, namely aminoglutethimide and thalidomide, in supercritical fluid conditions. Supercritical fluid chromatographic resolution on completely defined mono-cyclodextrin derivative-based chiral stationary phases (CSP) is a method of choice for the separation of aminoglutethimide but not effective for thalidomide. For both high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) conditions, the impact of the position, imposed to be 2 or 6 in our synthetic pathway, of the pentenyl moiety on one of the glucopyranosidics of the CD cage is of crucial importance in the chiral discrimination phenomenon.

To further elucidate the molecular basis for hereditary thrombophilia, we screened the protein S active gene in 11 families with type I deficiency, using a strategy based on denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) of all the coding sequences. Fragments with an abnormal DGGE pattern were sequenced, and 5 novel mutations were identified in 8 families. The mutations were a 7-nucleotide deletion in exon II, a 4-nucleotide deletion in exon III, a T insertion in exon VII, a C to T transition transforming Leu 259 into Pro and a T to C transition transforming Cys 625 into Arg in 4 families.
