Background: A Cochrane review in 2006 concluded that further knowledge is required before recommendation can be made with regard to progesterone in the prevention of preterm birth.

Objective: To provide an update on the preventive effect of progesterone on preterm birth in singleton pregnancies.

Search Strategy: A search in the PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane database was performed using the keywords: pregnancy, progesterone, preterm birth/preterm delivery, preterm labor, controlled trial, and randomized controlled trial.

A 57-year-old man who 16 years earlier had been operated on for right-sided inguinal hernia and since had undergone reoperation four times for recurrent symptoms from the region, presented with an arteriovenous fistula originating from the right inguinal area, with varicose veins spreading towards the umbilicus. Angiography confirmed the diagnosis and the fistula was resected, after which the symptoms completely disappeared.

Autoantibody production is commonly associated with particular HLA class II phenotypes. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether the presence of antiphospholipid (APL) antibodies and other autoantibodies in women with unexplained recurrent miscarriage was associated with particular human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-DR or -DQ alleles or linked epitopes which have previously been reported as being associated with the recurrent miscarriage syndrome or the presence of APL. In a total of 123 Danish and Czech women with recurrent miscarriage, serum was investigated for six different APL antibodies including anticardiolipin (ACL) antibody.

Inherited antithrombin (AT) deficiency is a major cause of venous thromboembolism, especially in relation to surgery and pregnancy. We present six AT deficient pregnant women, who successfully delivered seven babies at the Department of Gynaecology/Obstetrics, Aalborg Hospital. From conception, or if possible prior to conception, the women were treated with unfractionated (UFH) or low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) throughout the pregnancy.
