We reported a case of a 90-year-old man who underwent abdominoperineal resection of the rectum for advanced rectal cancer. On the 16th postoperative day, he suddenly lost consciousness during an exchange of the colostomy pouches. His heart arrested in a moment, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation was immediately performed, but in vain.

[Ciliated hepatic foregut cyst: report of a case and a summary of the 24 cases reported in Japan].

We report a 52-year-old patient with a small hepatic mass which was ultrasonographically anechoic with scattered high echoic spots, and appearing slightly hyperattenuating relative to the surrounding parenchyma on unenhanced CT scans. Laparotomy revealed that the lesion was a unilocular cyst containing a mucinous fluid. The histologic diagnosis was ciliated hepatic foregut cyst (CHFC).

Improved quality of life for malignant ascites patients by Denver peritoneovenous shunts.

Background: Intractable ascites secondary to malignant disease deteriorates the patients' quality of life.

Patients And Methods: Thirty-three patients, who had undergone Denver peritoneovenous shunt for the treatment of ascites associated with malignant tumor from May 1998 to February 2004, were retrospectively analyzed.

Results: Post-operative complications had occurred in twelve patients, including disseminated intravascular coagulation in eight, pulmonary edema in three and wound hematoma in one.
