Introduction: The Royal Marines provide the lead Service for UK Defence Mountain and Cold Weather Warfare capability. This is the first prospective study addressing musculoskeletal injury rates sustained during Cold Weather Warfare training, with the aim of informing injury mitigation interventions and assist military medical planning with respect to delivering primary care rehabilitation in theatre.
Methods: All musculoskeletal injuries were surveyed by the Forward Rehabilitation Team (Nov 2019-Mar 2020) during a Cold Weather Deployment to Norway (Ex CETUS 2019/20).
Context: Countermovement jump (CMJ) and perceived wellness measures are useful for monitoring fatigue. Fatigue indicators should simultaneously show sensitivity to previous load and demonstrate influence on subsequent physical output; however, these factors have not been examined.
Objective: To explore the efficacy of CMJ and wellness measures to both detect postmatch fatigue and predict subsequent physical match output in elite youth soccer players.
Purpose: When exposed to the same external load, players receive different internal loads, resulting in varied adaptations in fitness. In adult soccer, internal training load is measured using heart rate (HR) and session rating of perceived exertion (sRPE) scales, but these have been underutilized in youth soccer. This study investigated the in-season variation in correlation between HR and sRPE estimations of training load for adolescent soccer players.

Objective: Diet and exercise reduce the incidence of diabetes in high-risk individuals as does metformin, although less dramatically. Here we evaluated if lifestyle and pharmacological intervention, for people at risk of diabetes, resulted in an improvement in their cardiometabolic risk profile.
Research Design/methods: In a primary care based study, 92 individuals screened opportunistically and identified to have impaired glucose handling were offered detailed lifestyle advice, at 6 monthly intervals, with targeting of cardiovascular risk factors.
