The Institute of Refractories Materials in Gliwice undertook researches in the field of technology of a new ceramic material of aluminium oxide for production of coxal joint endoprostheses. A poreless ceramic material of high chemical purity and density and required microstructure and good resistance to fracture, was achieved. The new ceramic material was called Biocorundum.

The experimental studies were undertaken in order to estimate the suitability of fibrin sealant in tracheal surgery and the compare tissue reactivity after using cyanoacrylic and fibrin adhesives. 14 piglets of the Poland white breed, weighing up to 25 kg, were used in the study. Under general tracheal anesthesis the tracheal wall was cut open by incision on the mid-line on the neck between the III-IV tubular cartilages along 3/4 of its circumference.

Polish surgical polyester knitted nets Dallop sterilized by radiation were implanted and tested on Wistar rats. The results of the experimental evaluation are positive and lead to the conclusion that the Dallop radiosterilized polyester nets may be used in humans. The evaluated knittings fulfill the most up-to-date biological requirements and may be utilized as implantation material for plastic and reconstructive surgery.

The results of tissue reaction to polyester thermoelectret foil samples are evaluated. The electrostatic measurement of the foils was performed before implantation. The experimental animals were divided into four groups depending on the surface charge density of the foils.
