Background: A great number of novel compounds with rich chemical diversity and significant bioactivity have been reported from Red Sea sponges.

Objective: To isolate, identify, and evaluate the cytotoxic activity of the chemical constituents of a sponge belonging to genus Haliclona collected from the Eastern coast of the Red Sea.

Materials And Methods: The total ethanolic extract of the titled sponge was subjected to intensive chromatographic fractionation and purification guided by cytotoxic bioassay toward various cancer cell lines.

Article Synopsis
  • - The compounds C20H19NO3 (1) and C20H17Cl2NO (2) are derivatives of curcumin, featuring unique structural characteristics such as dihedral angles of 21.07° for (1) and 13.4° for (2) between their benzene rings.
  • - Both compounds have piperidinone rings in a sofa conformation, with the N-atom attached methyl group in an equatorial position, highlighting their distinct structural features.
  • - Crystal structures reveal different types of hydrogen bonding: compound (1) forms chains linked by O-H and C-H bonds, while (2) exhibits weaker C-H⋯Cl bonds and π-π interactions, with a non

Novel series of 2-(4,6-dimethoxy,1,3,5-triazin-2-yl) amino acid ester derivatives were synthesized using simple one pot method in methanol. The products were obtained in high yields and purities as observed from their spectral data, elemental analyses, GC-MS and X-ray crystallographic analysis. The B3LYP/6-311G(d,p) calculated molecular structures are well correlated with the geometrical parameters obtained from the X-ray analyses.

Alkylated, benzylated and bromoalkylated benzimidazole-thione that intramolecularly heterocyclized to 3,4-dihydro-2H-[1,3]thiazino[3,2-a]benzimidazole were synthesized. The chemical structure of the synthesized product was characterized by Infra Red, ¹H-NMR, (13)C-NMR, and Mass spectroscopy. Furthermore, the molecular structures of 8 and 9 were confirmed by X-ray single crystallography in different space groups, Pbca and P2₁/c, respectively.

The synthesis of the new diethyl ammonium salt of diethylammonium(E)-5-(1,5-bis(4-fluorophenyl)-3-oxopent-4-en-1-yl)-1,3-diethyl-4,6-dioxo-2-thioxohexaydropyrimidin-5-ide 3 via a regioselective Michael addition of N,N-diethylthiobarbituric acid 1 to dienone 2 is described. In 3, the carboanion of the thiobarbituric moiety is stabilized by the strong intramolecular electron delocalization with the adjacent carbonyl groups and so the reaction proceeds without any cyclization. The molecular structure investigations of 3 were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction as well as DFT computations.
