Evidence-informed policymaking emphasizes that policy decisions should be informed by the best available evidence from research and follow a systematic and transparent approach. For public health policymaking we can learn from existing practices of transparent, evidence-informed decision-making for clinical practice, medicines, and medical technology. We review existing evidence-to-decision frameworks, as well as frameworks and theories for policymaking to address the political dimension of policymaking, and use this analysis to propose an integrated framework to guide evidence-informed policymaking.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFPurpose: The O-RADS malignancy risk stratification of typical ovarian dermoid cysts by using a 10 cm threshold is based on expert consensus rather than analysis of objective clinical data. This comprehensive scoping review consolidated all currently available studies evaluating typical benign ovarian dermoid cyst size and risk for malignant transformation.
Methods: A systematic review of MEDLINE, Embase, Scopus and the Cochrane library was performed from inception to January 14, 2024, using PRISMA-ScR guidelines.
A 70-year-old female underwent open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) of her right ankle following a mechanical trip and fell two weeks before hospital admission. Two weeks following surgery, the patient experienced sudden-onset bilateral anterior thigh paresthesias and burning mid-back pain. Over the ensuing two days, the patient developed bilateral lower extremity weakness, bilateral lower extremity numbness, and urinary retention with constipation, which led to hospital presentation.

Studies show death is no exception, with data demonstrating similar antemortem and postmortem microbiomes up to 48 h following death. These predictable microbial biomarkers can inform death investigation by helping to estimate the postmortem interval and build models to identify cause and manner of death.

Objective: Patients have difficulty understanding medical jargon in electronic health record (EHR) notes. Lay definitions can improve patient comprehension, which is the goal of the NoteAid project. We assess whether the NoteAid definitions are understandable to laypeople and whether understandability differs with respect to layperson characteristics.
