A matched case-control study on polypharmacy and co-medications one year before drug treatment for Alzheimer's disease.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most prevalent form of dementia, characterized by amyloid-β plaques and neurofibrillary tangles. With an aging population, both AD and comorbidities are increasingly common. Managing comorbidities often requires multiple medications, leading to polypharmacy, defined as the concurrent use of five or more medications.

The frequency and types of resident relocations in Dutch nursing homes: a nationwide cohort study of electronic health record data.

Purpose: One third of Dutch nursing home residents relocated at least once during length of stay. Roughly 75 percent were individual relocations and the other 25 percent concerned group relocations. The average yearly number of individual relocations was about 3 times as high in the first 4 months after admission compared with later periods.

Time Gained to Cardiovascular Disease by Intensive Lipid-Lowering Therapy: Results of Individual Placebo-Controlled Trials and Pooled Effects.

Introduction: Despite the effect on blood lipid levels, the clinical benefits of intensive versus standard pharmacological lipid-lowering therapy remain unclear. Previous reviews have presented relative effects on the risk of clinical outcomes, but not the absolute risk reductions (ARRs) and the time gained to a clinical outcome, also called outcome postponement (OP). The aim of this study was to estimate the effect of intensive versus standard lipid-lowering therapy in terms of ARR and OP of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), myocardial infarction (MI), stroke, and all-cause mortality.

Quantitative assessment of baseline imbalances in evolocumab and alirocumab trials: a meta-epidemiological study.

Background: Baseline imbalances have been identified in randomized trials of evolocumab and alirocumab. Our aim was to quantitatively assess (1) the presence of systematic baseline differences, and (2) the relationship of baseline differences with effects on low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-c) and clinical outcomes in the trials.

Background: Delirium is a common and serious neuropsychiatric disorder. The prognosis of delirium in older patients living at home has not been studied often before. The aim of this study is to examine the prognosis of delirium in patients attending a memory clinic of a psychiatric hospital.
