Objective: In comparison a higher insulin-glucose-index is usually associated with an increased insulin resistance. In the present study changes in insulin-glucose-indices were examined in relation to a defined glucose tolerance in the last trimester of pregnancy.
Material And Methods: 249 pregnant women were challenged with a 75 gm oral glucose tolerance test (oGTT).
Objectives: To evaluate metabolic abnormalities, beta-cell function, lipid profile and vascular risk factors in HIV patients on protease inhibitors (PI).
Design: Prospective cross-sectional study.
Methods: Thirty-eight HIV-1-infected patients receiving at least one PI were compared with 17 PI-naive HIV patients in an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT).
The mechanisms involved in the rapid glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) release following glucose ingestion are poorly defined. Besides a direct intestinal stimulation of L cells, humoral and neuronal mechanisms have been discussed. We investigated the temporal pattern of GLP-1 release in five healthy men (aged 27.

Unlabelled: The liver is central to the metabolic response to exercise but measurements of effects of reduced liver function on the physiological adaptation to exercise are scarce. We investigated metabolic, endocrine, pulmonary and haemodynamic responses to exercise in 15 healthy untrained controls (Co) and in 30 subjects with reduced liver function (i.e.

This is demonstrated in a case of an 80-year-old woman suffering from the combination of adrenal insufficiency and hypothyroidism. Early recognition of typical clinical signs and adequate, simply performed replacement therapy results in a significant improvement of the patient's quality of life.
