Preventive measures for axial symptoms following cervical laminoplasty.

We have modified the operative procedure of laminoplasty and changed the postoperative therapy since 1997. In the modified group, several modifications were incorporated. The open door type of cervical en bloc laminoplasty was performed.

Effects of two volatile anesthetics (sevoflurane and halothane) on the hypothalamic noradrenaline release in rat brain.

There are marked increases in noradrenaline (NA) release during emergence from general anesthesia induced with volatile anesthestics. These changes in NA in the posterior hypothalamus of the rat were assessed by intracranial microdialysis. Sevoflurane and halothane in equipotent concentrations were used to obtain the same depth of anesthesia.

Effect of venous valves on grafts for coronary artery bypass.

The effect of venous valves on blood flow and patency in grafts of the long saphenous vein for coronary artery bypass is examined. Our experimental model involved both diastolic-predominant blood flow and transient systolic regurgitation, and the waveform was similar to that of in vivo coronary circulation. In this model, blood flow was assessed in the presence or absence of venous valves.
