Bowel Preparation for Colonoscopy with Sodium Phosphate Solution versus Polyethylene Glycol-Based Lavage: A Multicenter Trial.

Background: Adequate bowel preparation is essential for accurate colonoscopy. Both oral sodium phosphate (NaP) and polyethylene glycol-based lavage (PEG-ELS) are used predominantly as bowel cleansing modalities. NaP has gained popularity due to low drinking volume and lower costs.

2072 patients underwent ultrasonically guided fine-needle biopsy. 1384 patients could be assessed with regard to the final diagnosis. 854 patients underwent fine-needle biopsy of the liver, 322 of the pancreas and 218 of retroperitoneal lesions.

[Hereditary chronic calcifying pancreatitis].

Four family members covering three generations presented with chronic calcifying pancreatitis. A tumor at the pancreas head was detected intraoperatively in a fifth elderly member of the family. Two of the four cases of chronic pancreatitis were diagnosed in childhood and one in adolescence.

[Incidence of peptic ulcer in an inpatient angiologic patient sample].

Incidence of peptic ulcers in hospitalized patients with arterial occlusive disease without history or clinical symptoms of ulcer disease was 32% and four times higher than in patients with acute phlebothrombosis. Possible etiological factors could be: decreased blood perfusion of gastric or duodenal mucosa because of generalized arteriosclerosis, intake of ulcerogenic drugs, chronic abuse of nicotine, and stress due to the underlying arterial occlusive disease. Patients with inflammatory vascular disease are affected as often as are patients with arteriosclerotic disease.
