BK polyomavirus (BKPyV) causes premature renal failure in 10% to 30% of kidney transplant recipients (KTRs). Current guidelines recommend screening for new-onset BKPyV-DNAemia/nephropathy and reducing immunosuppression to regain BKPyV-specific immune control. Because BKPyV encompasses 4 major genotype (gt)-encoded serotypes (st1,-2,-3,-4), st-specific antibodies may inform the risk and course of BKPyV-DNAemia/nephropathy.

While active tuberculosis (TB) accelerates immunodeficiency, the interaction between MTB and HIV-1 during asymptomatic phases remains unclear. Analysis of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) transcriptomic profiles in PWH, with and without controlled viral loads, revealed distinct clustering in MTB-infected individuals.

Background: Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) is a severe opportunistic brain disease caused by lytic JC polyomavirus (JCPyV) replication in oligodendrocytes. Although JCPyV infection is common in the general population, PML almost exclusively occurs in patients immunocompromised due to untreated HIV/AIDS, haematological malignancies, primary immunodeficiencies, solid organ transplantation, or immunomodulatory treatment of autoimmune diseases. There is no effective antiviral treatment, and recovery depends on immune reconstitution.
