Background: The size, strength, and unpredictability of horses, makes any interaction a potential situation for minor to severe injury. Despite this, horses continue to be popular for work and recreational activities. There have been five recent Australian publications that have examined various aspects of horse-related trauma, but none have been conducted in regional New South Wales (NSW).

- In a study, researchers found that combining BRAF and MEK1/2 inhibitors significantly reduced cell growth in most tested mutant thyroid cancer cell lines and effectively inhibited the MAPK pathway.
- To combat drug resistance, they identified downregulation of Aurora Kinase B in sensitive cells and demonstrated that inhibiting Aurora Kinase B alongside MEK1/2 could lead to increased apoptosis, suggesting a new potential treatment strategy for patients with mutant thyroid cancer.
Globally, pesticides improve crop yields but at great environmental cost, and their overuse has caused resistance. This incurs large financial and production losses but, despite this, very diversified farm management that might delay or prevent resistance is uncommon in intensive farming. We asked farmers to design more diversified cropping strategies aimed at controlling herbicide resistance, and estimated resulting weed densities, profits, and yields compared to prevailing practice.
