HBS: a novel biometric feature based on heartbeat morphology.

In this paper, a new feature named heartbeat shape (HBS) is proposed for ECG-based biometrics. HBS is computed from the morphology of segmented heartbeats. Computation of the feature involves three basic steps: 1) resampling and normalization of a heartbeat; 2) reduction of matching error; and 3) shift invariant transformation.

From Lowe syndrome to Dent disease: correlations between mutations of the OCRL1 gene and clinical and biochemical phenotypes.

Mutations of OCRL1 are associated with both the Lowe oculocerebrorenal syndrome, a multisystemic and Dent-2 disease, a renal tubulopathy. We have identified a mutation in 130 Lowe syndrome families and 6 affected by Dent-2 disease with 51 of these mutations being novel. No founding effect was evidenced for recurrent mutations.

Testing for triallelism: analysis of six BBS genes in a Bardet-Biedl syndrome family cohort.

The phenotype of Bardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS) is defined by the association of retinitis pigmentosa, obesity, polydactyly, hypogenitalism, renal disease and cognitive impairement. The significant genetic heterogeneity of this condition is supported by the identification, to date, of eight genes (BBS1-8) implied with cilia assembly or function. Triallelic inheritance has recently been suggested on the basis of the identification of three mutated alleles in two different genes for the same patient.

Cytogenetic survey of 117 Tunisian patients with de novo myelodysplastic syndrome.

Cytogenetic studies were performed on 117 Tunisian patients with de novo myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). According to the French-American-British (FAB) criteria 40 patients presented with refractory anaemia (RA, 34%), eight with refractory anaemia with ringed sideroblasts (RARAS, 7%), 19 with refractory anaemia with excess of blasts (RAEB, 16%), 16 with refractory anaemia with excess of blasts in transformation (RAEB-t, 14%), 18 had chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia (CMML, 15%) and 16 unclassifiable MDS (14%). Seventy-five were men and forty-two were women.
