Article Synopsis
  • The text discusses a rare skin reaction, symmetrical drug-related intertriginous and flexural exanthema (SDRIFE), that can occur after taking corticosteroids, specifically prednisolone, as shown in four case studies from a German dermatology center.
  • The study involved allergy tests on patients, evaluating reactions to different corticosteroids and using classification systems to analyze potential cross-reactivity among them.
  • The findings suggest that while corticosteroid-induced type IV hypersensitivity reactions like SDRIFE are uncommon, they can happen, and individualized assessments are essential for managing these reactions effectively, including considering alternative treatments and the possible need for emergency corticosteroids.

We have developed a therapy manual ("CrystalClean") over 15 therapy modules, which was evaluated in the present pilot study with regard to feasibility and acceptability.
