Invasive fungal infections in children with leukemia in a tertiary hospital in Oman: An eight-year review.

Background And Purpose: Invasive fungal disease (IFD) is a common and serious consequence of leukemia in children and the incidence of these infections has increased due to chemotherapy. This study aimed to present the epidemiology of IFD in a cohort of children with leukemia from a tertiary reference institution in Oman.

Materials And Methods: A retrospective study of IFDs in pediatric patients below 13 years of age with newly diagnosed or relapsed leukemia was conducted at the Royal Hospital in Muscat, Oman.

Chest Pain and Electrocardiographic Changes in a Child With Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.

A 12-year-old boy known to have Duchenne muscular dystrophy presented to our Emergency Department with acute onset central chest pain. A 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) was performed showing ST-segment elevation with reciprocal changes. An echocardiogram showed reduced left ventricular systolic function with an ejection fraction of 45%.

Status and Prospects of Botanical Biopesticides in Europe and Mediterranean Countries.

Concerning human and environmental health, safe alternatives to synthetic pesticides are urgently needed. Many of the currently used synthetic pesticides are not authorized for application in organic agriculture. In addition, the developed resistances of various pests against classical pesticides necessitate the urgent demand for efficient and safe products with novel modes of action.

Emergency medical services versus private transport of trauma patients in the Sultanate of Oman: a retrospective audit at the Sultan Qaboos University Hospital.

Aims: This study aims to assess the differences in the outcome of road traffic trauma patients between those transported by emergency medical services (EMS) and those privately transported to the Sultan Qaboos University Hospital in the Sultanate of Oman in 2011.

Methods: This is a retrospective study of road traffic trauma patients admitted to the Sultan Qaboos University Hospital between January to December 2011. Data for all cases were retrieved from the emergency department database.
