Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with inferior vena cava (IVC) tumor thrombus is generally considered to be borderline resectable because of its poor prognosis. This report describes a patient who underwent multidisciplinary treatment for HCC with massive IVC tumor thrombus.

Article Synopsis
  • Fibroblastic foci (FF) are important indicators of usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP) but can also appear in various fibrotic interstitial lung diseases (ILDs), making them non-specific for UIP.
  • This study analyzed the spatial distribution of FF in different forms of ILDs in patients who underwent lung transplants, categorizing them by anatomical location.
  • Results showed that idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) had more total and peripheral FF compared to other ILDs, while centrilobular FF was more prevalent in fibrotic hypersensitivity pneumonitis (FHP), suggesting distinct spatial patterns associated with different diseases.

While epidemiological and experimental studies have demonstrated kidney-protective effects of estrogen and female sex in adulthood, some epidemiological data showed deterioration of kidney function during puberty when estrogen production increases. However, molecular mechanisms explaining these conflicting phenomena remain unknown. Here, we showed that the pubertal sex hormone surge in female mice increases susceptibility to kidney ischemia reperfusion injury partly via downregulation of insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IGF-1R) expression in proximal tubules.

Background: Recently, it has been shown that DNA methylation arrays and German Cancer Research Center (Deutsches Krebsforschungszentrum) methylation classifiers are useful aids in brain tumor diagnosis for cases in which histopathological diagnosis is difficult. However, not enough is known about diagnostic aids for intracranial liposarcoma (LPS).

Observations: An 18-year-old woman with a history of natural killer/T-cell lymphoma, which had been treated with a bone marrow transplant and total body irradiation at age 11 years, presented with diplopia.
