Person-centered planning has been shown to benefit people with disabilities and their quality of life. However, we have little knowledge of how person-centered planning can benefit staff and administration within a group home organization, as well as the extent to which it results in changes to organizational practices and procedures, as well as perceptions of people with disabilities. In this qualitative study, we explored the perspectives of organizational employees, an affiliating behavioral consultant, and residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities, taking into consideration key insights from person-centered planning consultant-coaches, to understand the effects of a person-centered planning initiative on the group home organization.

Currently, there are no placenta-targeted treatments to alter the in utero environment for administration to pregnant women who receive a diagnosis of fetal growth restriction (FGR). Water-soluble polymers have a distinguished record of clinical relevance outside of pregnancy. We have demonstrated the effective delivery of polymer-based nanoparticles containing a non-viral human insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF1) transgene to correct placental insufficiency in small animal models of FGR.

Article Synopsis
  • Cardiac pressure overload can lead to problems for patients with congenital heart defects, and using stem cell-derived heart cells might help improve heart function alongside surgery.
  • Researchers successfully implanted human stem cell-derived heart cells into the hearts of rhesus macaques facing induced pressure overload, achieving good integration with the existing heart tissue.
  • Although some monkeys experienced episodes of ventricular tachycardia after the cell transplant, these events generally resolved within a few weeks, indicating a need for monitoring but also promising potential for this treatment approach.
